Italian architect and artist Matteo Pericoli drew two meticulous 37-foot scrolls of Manhattan for his adult book MANHATTAN UNFURLED. He offers a children's version here. The innovative binding is structured to open in two different directions to display the West Side and East Side. The enormously detailed pen-and-ink drawings of the buildings are reduced to double-page spreads and depict the island of Manhattan from the tip of the Bronx to the southernmost area as it looked in 2000, with the World Trade Center eerily intact. In the explanatory text, Pericoli pointedly encourages people to draw their surroundings, maintaining that they'll see details that they would never otherwise notice.
