The Immortal Beaver

Fifty years after it was designed, the de Havill and Canada DHC-2 Beaver is still the world's best bush plane. Adopted in quantity by the American military because nothing else could match its performance, the Beaver became the general's Jeep in the Korean War ... and the generals' favorite transport into isolated fishing spots in peacetime. Unique in the history of aviation, the Beaver is one of the few airplanes consistently rebuilt from wrecks. Although the last of the Beavers were assembled 30 years ago, more of them are flying today than a decade ago. Beavers are still the floatplane of choice for island hopping along the convoluted coasts of the Pacific Northwest and for flying into the Arctic and Antarctic.
