The first novel of a planned trilogy, ACROSS THE NIGHTINGALE FLOOR is set in an imagined country very much like medieval Japan, where a village ruled by a diabolical warlord rebels by performing acts of kindness. When the ruler takes his revenge by destroying the village, one boy, teenaged Takeo, happens to be safely up in the hills overlooking the town.
