Lighthousekeeping

Silver is being raised by Pew, the old, blind lighthouse keeper in her Scottish town, who tells her the story behind the building of the lighthouse--one involving love, betrayal, and disaster. At the same time, Silver's own story turns desperate: Pew's lighthouse bows to automation and, jobless, Pew disappears, leaving Silver on her own. Jeanette Winterson's story is a sad but ultimately hopeful tale that spans two centuries and brings to life both the bleak coast of Scotland and a sun-drenched Greek island.
